Dr. Carolyn M. Nelham is a psychologist specializing in individual therapy and clinical neuropsychology and maintains a private practice in Montreal, Quebec.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and General Education from Central Washington University, where I began my special education career in corrections education. I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I began my social work career providing intensive in home court mandated therapy in the district of Columbia.

I specialize in working with adolescents, adults, families and couples. I have also developed a passion for working with all people experiencing life with a disability including returning veterans who may be living life with a physical, emotional or cognitive disability.

I enjoy utilizing a wide modality of techniques to address emotional concerns. I have a particular interest in working with individuals around issues such as trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, obesity, behavior problems, changing families, parenting, marriage and couples work and social difficulties.

Additionally, I am a Licensed School Social Worker and have continued my career in Fairfax County Public Schools as a school social worker. I initially began my school social work career in 2005 serving three schools. In 2009 I began working in the School’s Homeless Liaison’s Office where the focus of my work was working with homeless students who were unable to reside with their family. In the spring of 2013, I was provided an opportunity to assist with the development and implementation of a school based behavioral health program. Currently I am privileged to be the school social worker at a specialized school serving students with severe and multiple disabilities.


Doctorate of Philosophy, specialization in Counseling Psychology, defended July 21, 2005, convocation October 2005. McGill University, Montreal, Quebec.

Post-Doctoral Certificate, specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology. The Fielding Institute, Santa Barbara, California Washington D.C. Cluster. Supervised by Dr. A. Mirsky and defended June 2000.

Master of Education, specialization in Counseling Psychology. Convocation 1999, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec.

Baccalaureate in Arts, specialization in Psychology (including thesis, 1996). Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec.

    I provide all the necessary paperwork for my clients to be reimbursed by their insurance provider. The majority of my clients receive some form of reimbursement form their insurance. Please call your insurance provider to determine your coverage.

  • Payment

    I accept cash, check and all major credit cards accepted for payment. Payment is due at the end of each session.


    $150 per 60-minute session
    Reduced fee services are available on a limited basis.

  • Cancellation Policy

    If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment you will be required to pay the full cost of the session. If you cancel your appointment within the 24 hours prior to the session you will be charged for 50% of the session rate. There is no fee for cancellations made with 24 hours notice or more, cancellations due to emergencies, or illness. Every effort is made to accommodate clients schedules, schedule changes, and health challenges.
